Blasting is the one operation on a quarry where being roughly right is not a category that exists.
A shot that is over-charged throws rock at things that are not rock. Under-charged, it leaves a toe and oversize that costs more to deal with at the hopper than the explosive saved. Placed without regard to what is standing nearby, it produces a complaint, a stop-work notice, and a district officer on site.
Our crews are licensed shotfirers working under DGMS rules, and every shot is designed for the bench in front of them rather than repeated from the last one.

Designed for the bench
Burden, spacing, stemming and delay sequence worked out for the rock, the face height and the fragmentation the crusher wants. Delays are where fragmentation and vibration are actually won.

Overburden and rock excavation
Fracturing rocky overburden to expose the seam beneath, and breaking rock that a hydraulic breaker would take a month to do at ten times the cost.

Vibration and the neighbours
Ground vibration monitored, exclusion zones enforced, and structures nearby assessed before the first shot rather than after somebody complains about a crack.

01Is your blasting licensed?
Yes. Shots are fired by licensed shotfirers under DGMS rules, with magazine licensing and explosive movement records maintained on site. Your safety officer is welcome to audit any of it.
02We have houses near the boundary. Can you still blast?
Usually, with a design built around the constraint: smaller charge per delay, tighter sequencing, more shots of less size. It costs more per cubic metre than an open bench with nothing nearby, and it is a great deal cheaper than a stop-work order.
03Can you blast on our site with our licence?
That depends on what your licence covers and who is named on it. Send us the licence and we will tell you straight whether it works, rather than finding out at the magazine.
