What comes off the plants

The short version

A road is built in layers

Which is why a single supplier for the whole section is worth something. Change the decks, change the product, same weighbridge and the same convoy.

Flexible pavement · sectionwe produce
10mm · 20mm

Bituminous surfacing

BC and DBM, laid by the contractor

WMM

Wet Mix Macadam

The base course. Carries the load.

GSB

Granular Sub-base

Spreads load and drains the pavement.

Sub-grade

Compacted formation. Not a supplied material.

Product sheets

Seven products, one plant

  1. 01

    Granular Sub-base

    GSB

First granular layer above the sub-grade

The grading matters more here than anywhere else in a road: too many fines and it holds water, too few and it will not compact.

    Spec
MoRTH Clause 401, Grading I to VI
    Used for
Highway sub-base · Haul roads · Yard and hardstanding · Working platforms
  2. 02

    Wet Mix Macadam

    WMM

Base course, directly under the bituminous layers

Laid over GSB and under DBM, it is the layer that carries the load and the layer that shows first when a road starts to fail.

    Spec
    MoRTH Clause 406
    Used for
Highway base course · Service roads · Widening works · Industrial pavements
  3. 03

    40mm Aggregate

    40mm

    Lean concrete and drainage

    Used for
Dry lean concrete · Drainage layers · Soling · Mass concrete
  4. 04

    20mm Aggregate

    20mm

    Bituminous macadam and structural concrete

Shape matters as much as size: flaky aggregate off a badly set crusher fails the flakiness index no matter how clean the grading looks.

    Used for
DBM · Structural concrete · Precast · Pavement quality concrete
  5. 05

    10mm Aggregate

    10mm

    Wearing course and finer concrete

    Used for
Bituminous concrete · Surface dressing · Slab and beam concrete · Paver blocks
  6. 06

    Crusher Dust & Manufactured Sand

    Dust

    Fine aggregate and filler

Where the specification allows it, washed and graded dust replaces river sand in concrete and in block work, which matters more every year that sand mining gets harder.

    Used for
Fine aggregate in concrete · Paver bedding · Block and brick manufacture · Filling and levelling
  7. 07

    Boulder & Rubble

    Boulder

    Protection works

Shot rock sized but not crushed. Sold as-raised for protection work, and to third-party crushers as feed.

    Used for
Pitching and revetment · Gabion filling · Retaining works · Crusher feed

If the grading you need is not on this page, ask anyway. The plants are three-stage with adjustable screen decks, so most specifications are a matter of resetting the decks rather than finding a different supplier.
